NONMETALLIC TOOLING

• A high-accuracy dimensionally stable special curing tool from polymeric composite materials for curing and adhesive assembling the space telescope shells with working surface accuracy of no more than ±0,3 mm has been designed and manufactured.
• A number of theoretical and experimental studies have been carried out. A large-sized composite tool for curing, adhesive assembling and machining the large-sized shrouds for the launcher nose cones has been developed.
• Scientific principles for the development and commercial production of the large-sized composite curing tool with the surface area of up to 25 m² using a "model-free" method of forming the theoretical surface configuration which reduces the cost and time of tool manufacture 1,5-2 times have been developed.
• About 200 items of the large-sized composite tool have been evaluated. The products obtained meet the stringent requirements on dimensional stability and have a high-quality surface owing to the agreement between the thermal expansion coefficients of the tool and the item being cured.
• All processes are characterized by low energy intensity and optimum conditions of polymerization and glueing.
