15^th November, 2008 г. 20 years ago the first Russian space shuttle "Buran" was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Nonmetallic products of FSUE "ORPE "Technologiya" constituted 10% of the total 100 tons of the "Buran": high-strength windshields, large-sized doors, heat protection tiles which protected the space shuttle against the temperatures of more than 1200°C. The participation in the "Buran" program resulted in the development of new technologies for space, aviation and ground-based equipment.
